The sport of gymnastics has ancient origins and dates back approximately 2,000 years. Today, the skills that are learned by practicing gymnastics are often transferred to other activities. 1. Building Strength.

You may be surprised to learn that pound for pound, gymnasts have the most strength of all Olympic Athletes. That’s because gymnastics training increases the strength of your core and upper body in ways that other workouts don’t.

Although as we age, our bone mass decreases yearly, doing weight-bearing activities such as gymnastics aids your body in maintaining bone mass, and helps you avoid osteoporosis.

If you’re concerned about being injured during class, the flexibility you gain from gymnastics acts to protect your body from injuries.

3. Better Coordination.
