Simone Biles Puts Instagram Follower On Blast Following Hateful Comment
In 2004, the world was rooting on 16-year-old Carly Patterson as she won the Olympic gold medal in the Women’s All-Around gymnastics event in Athens, Greece. Millions of little kids around the world fell in love with Patterson and started their own gymnastics careers, whether it was joining a legitimate gymnastics academy or just rolling around on their bedroom floors.
Carly’s now enjoying her life away from the gymnastics scene, but she clearly has passed the torch onto another young superstar.
Simone Biles, the 4′ 9″ 20-year-old who took over the world at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is now at the top of the gymnastics pedestal. No one can argue how hard Biles worked and how great she did in each one of her Olympic events, but some people can still, somehow, find ways to criticize her.
According to Excelle Sports, Biles is currently on vacation with her family in Hawaii, trying to enjoy herself, but one of her Instagram followers felt the need to respond to her photos with some hateful and disrespectful language. The user wrote: “Seems like [yo]u have partied nonstop for a year,” and then used some inappropriate hashtags.
Since Biles 3.5 million followers can all see the user’s comment, she decided to respond.
“Talk to me when you train for 14 years and earn 5 Olympic Medals,” Biles wrote. “I think kids would say otherwise. My year off is well deserved! Take a couple seats.”
Biles posted the exchange on Twitter.
“Comments like this have me shook,” she added. “I really wanted to blur her name out so she doesn’t get the attention. But it is what it is.”
After Simone Biles’ “well deserved” vacation, she will get right back into working hard and training for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Millions of children will be tumbling at their local gymnastics academy preparing for their own version of the Olympics. If your children realize how great of a role model Simone Biles truly is and want to take some local gymnastics classes, it’s time to let them take the leap (or tumble).
